Dead Parrots due for return to nationals

The tournament, co-presented by Jet City Improv and the Chicago Improv Festival, was held at Wing-It Productions, where nine other teams from the area competed.

“Our region was one of the hardest,” said Miguel Vila, Western senior and fifth-year Parrot. “I learned a lot from the other troupes and how they’ve grown [since last year’s regionals].”

During the first of two 25-minute rounds, the Parrots performed a building blocks montage, in which they start with one person setting the scene and collectively add four people into one montage, then reverse back to the first person, said Noel Wamsley, Western senior and third-year Parrot.

In their second round, they performed an epic narrative, where any team member can step in and narrate the current scene being played.

“Both of these were original formats we created for this competition this year,” Wamsley said.

As defending national champions, the Parrots will be diligently preparing for the College Improv Tournament Nationals held March 10 in Chicago, Ill.

“We’re not taking a break at all,” Wamsley said. “We’re going to be rehearsing all the time and doing a lot of bonding [exercises]. We do a lot better when we trust each other.”

The Dead Parrots Society will showcase their regional performance from 7:30 to 9 p.m on Dec. 2-3,  in Fraser Hall room 2.
